Philippians 2:12-18 “Murmuring?” OR “Shining Like Stars?”

Posted by: Rev. Richard Bodini - June 23, 2013

To murmur is to make a low, continuous, indistinct sound or succession of sounds. To complain in low mumbling tones; to grumble; to mutter. What kind of picture do you provide to people and to the world when you mutter, grumble, murmur? What about when you argue with others? with brothers and sisters in Christ? Paul’s picture for the holy folk, for his dear friends in Philippi, is to be like-minded, one in spirit and of one mind, to love one another? in order that “you will shine like stars.” Tall order! But only in and through Jesus Christ, we can do this? and must do this.

Scripture: Philippians 2:1-11 Sermon: “Living Under the Lordship of Christ”

Posted by: Rev. Richard Bodini - June 18, 2013

Paul brings a few things to Philippians in our text. Encouragement and direction to the people to remain together in one spirit. Seek the welfare of others. Look to the example of Christ. In a bold move by the Holy Spirit some weeks ago when I arranged the preaching schedule and before I knew when Jordan would do Profession of Faith, God once again speaks with the text to the current situation. May we encourage, love, support, and pray not only for Jordan, but for all our children, youth, and young adults. May we support one another as we live under the Lordship of our Saviour.

Scripture: Philippians 1:12-30 Sermon: “Circumstances of Life: Is Paul Response like Yours?”

Posted by: Rev. Richard Bodini - June 18, 2013

Paul is like an excited teacher. Yet, today we get to one of the meaty parts of the letter. It is tough, tender, and difficult to swallow. The question I posed last week raises its impossible to ignore head this week: Can we live joyfully in every circumstance? It’s a real question? not just for Paul, but for us, right now, right here! A few years ago, the Calvin Worship Symposium focused on this letter and a book was created, “Dwelling with Philippians: A Conversation with Scripture through Image and Word.” I have a “borrowing” copy. Talk to me if you wish to borrow it for one week at a time. It will be available at the church library in September.

Philippians 1:1-11 “Saints, Blessings, and Prayer: Not your typical opening for a letter”

Posted by: Rev. Richard Bodini - June 7, 2013

Today we begin a journey into Paul’s letter to the Philippians. It is an interesting letter. It is short. Paul writes this letter to encourage the Christians at Philippi to live joyfully in every circumstance. Does this letter speak to us? Can we live joyfully in every circumstance? That will hopefully be the underlying question for us as we move through the various aspects and points of the letter. A few years ago, the Calvin Worship Symposium focused on this letter and a book was created, “Dwelling with Philippians: A Conversation with Scripture through Image and Word.” I have a “borrowing” copy.
